Bashkiria rescuers have warned of the danger of thin ice.
"With the arrival of spring, the ice on water bodies becomes dangerous because of its thinness. Temperature fluctuations destroy the ice cover and reduce its strength," the State Emergency Committee of the Republic of Bashkiria explained.
To avoid becoming an accidental victim, rescuers reminded that ice at least 10 cm thick is safe for humans. It is essential to know that ice is fragile in areas with fast currents, gushing springs, runoff waters, and places where coastal and aquatic vegetation grows. In addition, if the air temperature above 0 degrees lasts for more than three days, the strength of the ice decreases by 25%.
