Maslenitsa week is an East Slavic traditional holiday celebrated during the week before Lent. It has no fixed date; it changes yearly depending on Easter.
In 2025, Maslenitsa begins on February 24 and will last until March 2. The main celebrations will take place on Forgiveness Sunday, March 2. From March 3, believers begin to observe Lent.
Maslenitsa week is usually divided into two periods: Narrow Maslenitsa lasts from Monday to Wednesday, and Wide Maslenitsa from Thursday to Sunday. The first three days of the week are usually spent doing housework and household chores, preparing for the remaining time, which is generally spent having a lot of fun.
