Railway workers tested exoskeletons for first time

Employees of the Raevka station in Bashkiria were the first on the Kuibyshev Mainline to test exoskeletons, which are designed to reduce the load when performing the heaviest work. The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Bashkiria reported using exoskeletons when cutting rails and drilling holes for bolts, which places a massive load on workers' bodies.

As Russian Railways explains, the exoskeleton protects the spine from compression and relieves the back muscles by 90% when carrying a load up to 50 kg over 10 meters. Lifting a load of 50 kg from the floor to the waist level requires half of this weight.

The exoskeleton weighs about 3 kg and consists of a belt, chest cuffs, and a frame with fasteners. The frame fits against the worker's back through a perforated softener. The thigh and wrist cuffs are connected to the overall frame structure via weight compensators, which allows for even load distribution.
