In its first reading, the deputies adopted the bill, which aims to protect the Russian language. Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the State Duma to speed up the bill's consideration and ensure its revision.
The document, in particular, proposes to limit the use of foreign words in public spaces, including advertising, labels and signs, the media, the names of residential complexes, and the press service of state bodies' reports.
A requirement is introduced for the mandatory use of the Russian language in commercial designations and when posting information intended for public familiarization of consumers.
At the same time, company names, trademarks, and service marks will not fall under the law.
"The bill is important. The state language is the basis of national identity. Such issues must be approached carefully, understanding how the provisions of the law will be implemented after its adoption. It is necessary to protect and develop the Russian language, to create conditions for its popularization,” said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.
