January 27 marks the 81st anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The heroic defense of the city on the Neva lasted 872 days.
From the beginning of the blockade to its breakthrough and then its complete lifting, the city and its residents went through inhuman trials. Hunger, cold, constant bombing, and artillery shelling did not break the Leningraders.
"Every year, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives defending the city and those who survived the blockade. At the moment, 31 people who have been awarded the "Resident of Besieged Leningrad" badge live in Ufa. They are regularly visited by representatives of the administrations of the capital of Bashkortostan and the districts of our city, veterans, and public organizations," the mayor's office said.
A total of 53 residents of besieged Leningrad live in the republic.
