Lawyers will protect workers' rights in court free of charge in Russia

The labor rights of categories of citizens who have the right to free legal aid will be protected in court free of charge. Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the corresponding bill in the first reading.

The changes concern bureaus and lawyers participating in the state system of free legal aid. After the initiative is adopted, they will consult citizens with the right to such support and prepare applications for them. They will also represent their interests in courts, state, and municipal bodies in cases of labor rights violations.

The following persons have the right to receive free legal aid:

• people with an income below the subsistence level;
• disabled persons of groups I and II;
• veterans of the Great Patriotic War;
• orphans, guardians, and adoptive parents;
• participants of the SMO and their family members;
• incapacitated citizens and their guardians;
• victims of emergencies and their close relatives.

Laws of the subjects of the Russian Federation may regulate additional cases.
