The term "student family" will be enshrined in Russian legislation. In the first reading, State Duma deputies adopted the corresponding amendments to the law "On youth policy."
The document concerns families in which people under 35 are officially married and raising a child or children while studying full-time or part-time at universities and colleges.
"We are not just talking about a young family. We are talking about a student family that needs state support. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, about 22 thousand families study at universities alone in Russia, more than five thousand of which are raising children," Yulia Drozhzhina, a member of the Health Protection Committee, commented on the parliamentarians' initiative.
