Residents of Bashkiria will be able to see the Supermoon today
According to the press service of the Ufa City Planetarium, the Supermoon will rise in the east on the evening of October 17. It will appear above the horizon in Ufa at 17.57 local time.
“The Moon will look a little larger than usual because, at this time, it will be closest to the Earth — near the perigee (the closest point in the lunar orbit to the Earth). At 16.26 Ufa time, the full Moon will occur. When the Moon is near the perigee, such full moons have recently become fashionable to call super full moons,” the planetarium explained.
During a super full moon, the Moon looks about 14% larger and 30% brighter than when the full Moon coincides with the apogee when the Moon is at its farthest distance from the Earth (mini full Moon).
It is noted that nothing unusual happens during the super full Moon and mini full Moon; only a very attentive observer can notice the difference in the size and brightness of the Moon.
