Bashkiria Adopts Sports Medicine Development Strategy

More than 2 million people (more than half of the region's population) in our republic are actively involved in physical education and sports. Therefore, developing sports infrastructure is one of the government's main focuses, and the Ministry of Health is working to create conditions for medical support for both professional athletes and amateurs, the department's Telegram channel reports.

“This year, the Russian government approved the Strategy for the Development of Physical Education and Sports for the period up to 2030, which provides for an increase in the number of people involved in sports, as well as an improvement in the quality of sports training and conditions for physical education. The full implementation of this document will require, among other things, the organization of medical support for athletes. For these purposes, a Strategy for the Development of Sports Medicine for the next 6 years has been developed,” said Andrey Nazarov, Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The document includes a plan for training specialists in sports medicine, expanding the network of medical offices, and creating an electronic athlete's passport. About 140 million rubles from the Republican budget are expected to be allocated for these purposes, including in-depth medical examinations for many athletes.

Bashkortostan has become the only region in Russia where a separate register of athletes operates in the state health information system. This allows for effective tracking of in-depth examination data and ensures continuity of treatment. In 2023, more than 89 thousand athletes underwent such examinations, and 20% of them were found to have indications for timely treatment.
