According to Ratmir Mavliev, the city mayor, repair and restoration work are ongoing inside the Khakimiya Mosque on Mustai Karim Street in Ufa.
The adjacent territory is being improved at the site. Granite tiles and an automatic irrigation system are installed near the mosque, the outdoor lighting is updated, and comprehensive landscaping is planned.
"The premises have long needed updating. It looks beautiful and dignified. I am sure that this historically significant place will soon become a new point of attraction for Ufa residents and guests of our city," said Ratmir Mavliev.
The mosque was built between 1907 and 1908. The Tatar merchant Abdullatif Khakimov, a member of the Ufa provincial administration of the Russian Red Cross Society and the Trusteeship of the Society for Poor Muslims, financed it. To the west of the mosque, the Hakimiya madrasah was also built.
Since 1930, it has housed a school for thousands, a club at a factory, and a prison at the city's military commandant's office. It has been under restoration since 2002, and the minarets and crescents were completed in 2019.
