Bashkiria is preparing for the II International Geological Championship "GeoChallenge." The competition will be held from September 2 to 9 in the Chishminsky and Gafuriysky districts of the republic.
The championship is being held on the initiative of the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov and the management of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use (Rosnedra).
"The profession of a geologist is one of the most important because Russia is a large power with enormous wealth. There have been a lot of geological studies. Still, we clearly understand that many discoveries await us ahead, not only in Bashkortostan but also in the Russian Federation. Our task is to create comfortable conditions. It is clear that certain competitions and contests are taking place here, but in general, the geological community is gathering. These guys and girls will determine the geological policy of our country in 20 years," notes the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov.
Leading geologists from Rosnedra and its subordinate organizations, subsoil users, specialized educational institutions, and the Institute of Geology of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be experts and mentors for GeoChallenge.
Students from 15 regions of Russia, including new regions and 10 foreign countries, will participate in the championship: China, South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Guinea, Georgia, Ghana, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
Teams from Voronezh, Krasny Luch, Vladivostok, Grozny, Kazan, Oktyabrsky, Miass, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Samara, St. Petersburg, Stavropol, Tyumen, Ufa, and Yakutia will arrive in Bashkortostan. Each team will have seven people, including a supervisor. In total, about 250 participants are expected to arrive. During the championship, students will compete in 11 main stages: "Geological route," "Plate sampling," "Geological section," "Mineralogy and petrography," "Paleontology," "Radiometrics," "Geochemistry," "Hydrogeology," "Oil and gas," "Testing on the basics of geological knowledge," "Organization of a field camp."
The program also includes cultural and sports events, excursions, geological seminars, and master classes.
Based on the championship results, prize winners and winners will be determined; participants will meet with leading industry experts, gain unique experience, and have the opportunity to undergo industrial practice in the largest subsoil user companies.
Last year, more than 120 students of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions from 13 regions of the country and Kazakhstan participated in the first "GeoChallenge" championship. They completed 11 competitions, six offices, and five fields in six days.
