Russia to ban energy drinks’ sale to children

The ban will take effect on March 1, 2025. Currently, sellers will have the right to demand identification when selling alcohol.

State Duma deputies have adopted a law banning the sale of energy drinks to children. Starting March 1, 2025, it will be prohibited to sell children non-alcoholic tonic beverages, including energy drinks, throughout Russia. Sellers will have the right to demand identification, as is currently the case when selling alcohol, the State Duma press service reports.

“Every second, a young person consumes energy drinks. Doctors have proved the harm of such drinks - they increase the risk of hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, and other diseases,” Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized.

In addition, regions are given additional powers to bring order to this area: we are discussing the possibility of limiting the place and time of sale.
