Aksakov Garden in Ufa could be decorated with sculpture “Blind Girl with Dog”

A sculptural composition representing a blind girl reading a book in Braille with a guide dog in special equipment with an identification mark at her feet may appear in the Ufa Aksakov Garden of Culture and Leisure.

Guzel Khasanova, co-director of the Club of Assistance Dog Owners of Bashkortostan, “Aktyrnak,” proposed creating an art object with the Regional Public Organization for Support of Public Initiatives of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

Our fellow countryman Sergei Aksakov, an outstanding Russian writer, was visually impaired for the last 18 years. A year before his death, he dictated his world-famous fairy tale, “The Scarlet Flower,” to his daughter Vera since he could no longer read and write.

According to the press service of the library for blind people, the art object will demonstrate the prevalence and significance of using Braille and guide dogs to expand the opportunities and improve the quality of life of people with visual impairments. It will allow us to draw public attention to the problems of people with visual disabilities and the issues of their adaptation in society.
