The Russian airline Red Wings is expanding its network of passenger routes from the capitals of the Volga Federal District republics. Transfer flights from Ufa, Kazan, and Izhevsk via Yekaterinburg will reduce travel time by 1.3-8 times compared to flights with a transfer in Moscow.
According to the airline, its updated flight schedule includes 18 new routes from Ufa to Almaty, Astana, Barnaul, Bukhara, Vladikavkaz, Gorno-Altaisk, Izhevsk, Kemerovo, Makhachkala, Nizhnevartovsk, Novokuznetsk, Novy Urengoy, Omsk, Orenburg, Saratov, Stavropol, Surgut, and Tomsk.
All these flights are operated with transfers through the interregional hub at Koltsovo Airport (Ekaterinburg). To service the hub, 7 short-haul SSJ-100 airliners will be permanently based at the Yekaterinburg air hub until the end of 2024. Short connections and end-to-end check-in can significantly reduce travel time. For example, a flight on the Red Wings route Ufa - Kemerovo with a connection in Yekaterinburg takes only 6 hours. For comparison, flights from other airlines on a similar route with a transfer to Moscow take 8 to 47 hours.
