Mathematics Day will appear in Russia, the Russian government's press service reported.
A new professional holiday, Mathematics Day, will be celebrated in winter. It is proposed that December 1, the birthday of the outstanding Russian mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky, be a holiday date.
Prime Minister of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin ordered that the professional holiday be fixed in the calendar.
The Russian Ministry of Education has been instructed to consolidate the decision with the necessary regulatory legal act within two months.
The Rector of Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy, approached the government with the initiative to establish Mathematics Day. This proposal was first made during the All-Russian Congress of Teachers and Lecturers of Mathematics, held at Moscow State University in November 2023, and was supported by its participants.
