Instructor pilot, parachutist, climber, and musician Alexander Lynnik from Ufa, who was part of the Russian team, was the first in the world to make a stratospheric jump to the North Pole.
On April 12, Alexander Lynnik, pilot-cosmonaut and Hero of Russia Mikhail Kornienko, and engineer Denis Efremov jumped from an IL-76 aircraft from a height of more than 10,000 meters and landed safely. The record holders were in free fall for about two minutes and opened their parachutes at an altitude of about 1 km, TASS reported.
The project was dedicated to three dates: the 10th anniversary of Crimea's reunification with Russia, the 90th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin, and the 450th anniversary of Ufa.
