“Family studies” school lessons will appear in Russian schools from September 1

From September 1 of this year, the school lesson “family studies” will be introduced for high school teenagers in Russian schools. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced this at a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the government.

“We introduce it as part of “Conversation about Important Things” or extracurricular activities. I would like to immediately note that this will not be a lesson in the usual sense. This must be a confidential and sensitive conversation between the teacher and children with feedback aimed, among other things, at developing a positive attitude towards starting a family. We will emphasize the formation of family values from school,” explained Tatyana Golikova.

She noted that among the life goals that young people aged 18–35 set for themselves, 71 percent prioritize creating a happy family and raising children, so it is essential to support this desire. Work is underway to create a national project, “Family”, within which new or improved existing programs to support various categories of young families will be introduced.

As Bashinform News Agency informed, from September 1, 2025, the republic plans to introduce the course “History of our region. Bashkortostan" into educational history. The Minister of Education and Science of Bashkiria, Ildar Mavletberdin, announced this at the State Assembly - Kurultai of the region at a committee meeting to develop civil society institutions, information policy, and religious affairs. Schoolchildren from fifth to seventh grades will study the new subject.
