Irina Podnosova recommended for Russian Federation Supreme Court Chairman

The Higher Judges' Qualifications Board (HJQB) recommended the candidacy of Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Irina Podnosova for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. The federal media reported this, citing the words of the Chairman of the All-Russian Congressional Committee of Ukraine, Nikolai Timoshin.

He said on April 1 during a meeting, “The HJQB decided to recommend Irina Podnosova as a candidate for the Russian Federation Supreme Court Chairman.”

The competition for the position of Supreme Court Chairman was announced on March 1 after the death of former Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev on February 23 after a long illness. Irina Podnosova is the only one who applied for the vacant position.

According to Izvestia, Irina Podnosova began her legal career in 1975 as a consultant in the justice department of the Leningrad Oblast Executive Committee; later, starting in 1990, she became a judge and, in 2003, the Chairman of the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region. From 2002 to 2012, she was a Council of Judges of the Leningrad Region member. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Council of Judges of Russia, and in 2018, she was appointed Chairman of the Second Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction. Since July 24, 2020 - Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia, Chairman of the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes.
