National Dictionary Fund may appear in Russia

A National Dictionary Fund may appear in Russia. The bill, according to which a single digital resource will appear in Russia, where data from Russian language dictionaries created over the last three centuries - from Pushkin to the present day will be collected, was adopted by State Duma deputies in the first reading.

It is planned that this will be a free, publicly available and verified source, with the help of which each user will be able to check the correct spelling of words and accents, find out the meaning of the same word in different contexts, and choose a synonym or phraseological unit.

As noted in the explanatory note, the National Dictionary Fund will help improve general literacy, protect and preserve the state language of the Russian Federation.

According to the parliament's press service, the phased creation of the National Dictionary Fund from 2025 to 2027 will require 182 million rubles from the federal budget. The work is carried out by the V.V. Vinogradov Russian Language Institute and coordinated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The first results should appear by the end of 2025.
