State Duma deputies in the first reading adopted two initiatives to strengthen liability for leakage of personal data.
In particular, for violations in this area, it is proposed to increase fines up to 15 million rubles and introduce turnover fines for repeated violations - from 0.1 to 3% of revenue for a calendar year or part of the current year, but not less than 15 million and not more than 500 million rubles.
In addition, it plans to tighten criminal liability for the use, transfer, collection, and storage of personal data obtained illegally. The maximum punishment for those found guilty will be imprisonment for up to ten years with a fine of up to 3 million rubles.
“There are more and more cases where personal data falls into the hands of fraudsters. Citizens come to us asking us to solve this problem. I conducted a survey on this topic in my TG channel - the majority spoke in favor of the need to strengthen penalties for leaking personal data,” commented Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.
According to the State Duma of the Russian Federation press service, fines for leaking personal data do not exceed 100 thousand rubles and 300 thousand rubles for repeated violations.
