The State Assembly of Bashkortostan Committee on Health, Social Policy, and Veterans Affairs supported the bill “On Amendments to the Family Code of the Republic of Bashkortostan.” The bill, in particular, proposes to expand the list of grounds for divorce. Such a reason, for example, could be a change of gender by one of the spouses, as previously reported by Bashinform News Agency. The resonant bill was commented on by the chairman of the republican parliament, Konstantin Tolkachev.
“A change in the civil status record regarding a change in gender by one of the spouses will be grounds for divorce. Marriage is the union of a man and a woman. Today, this is not just an obvious fact but a constitutional norm. This provision was enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020. In the Family Code of the Republic of Bashkortostan, this norm is not fully implemented, and therefore, a corresponding bill has been developed. It is also established that persons who have changed their gender cannot be adoptive parents, as well as guardians or trustees of children,” said the Speaker of the State Assembly.
Let us recall that the bill aims to protect constitutional rights and society's moral and family foundations.
