The Russian Ministry of Health has registered a new drug against hepatitis B. Clinical studies have confirmed its good tolerability and safety.
The drug, called Antihep-Neo, is approved for the prevention of hepatitis B in adults and children, including mothers who are carriers of the surface antigen of the hepatitis B virus. The drug is also indicated for patients with an increased risk of contracting hepatitis B before surgery, repeated blood transfusion and hemodialysis, and organ and cell transplantation.
During the production process, Antihep-Neo undergoes several additional purification stages, which ensure high viral safety of the drug and minimize the risk of adverse reactions in patients. Unlike the previous generation immunoglobulin drug, Antihep-Neo is used intravenously, which ensures its high therapeutic effectiveness.
“The drug is based on Microgen Company’s patented technology for producing highly purified and virus-safe class G immunoglobulins. Our know-how allows us to create drugs based on blood plasma with the qualitative characteristics of the latest generation. Antihep-Neo has successfully passed all stages of clinical trials and is ready for mass production. The presence of our modern technology will allow us to increase further the production of drugs in Russia that are highly in demand in a wide variety of branches of medicine,” said Deputy General Director of the Rostec State Corporation Alexander Nazarov.
Earlier, Bashinform News Agency reported that in Bashkortostan, over the six months of 2023, 441 cases of hepatitis were registered, of which 19 patients were among children under 17 years of age. 12 residents were diagnosed with hepatitis C, four residents were diagnosed with hepatitis B, and 55 residents were diagnosed with hepatitis A.
