New rules for associate professor and professor titles conferring introduced in Russia

New rules are being introduced for conferring the academic titles of associate professors and professors in Russia. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the decree on this.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the updated regulations on awarding the academic titles of associate professor and professor will come into effect on September 1, 2024.

The new order's main innovation is reducing the time frame for reviewing documents necessary for conferring academic titles from 125 to 100 days. This became possible thanks to the results of an experiment to optimize and automate permitting processes launched in 2021.

In addition, applicants for associate professor and professor are now allowed to submit online courses they have developed as written textbooks or teaching aids. They must be posted on the university website and used in the educational process.

As before, an applicant for the academic title of associate professor must submit at least 20 educational publications or scientific works written by himself or co-authored. For an applicant for the title of professor, this qualification is higher - 50 educational publications or scientific works. In addition, a specialist applying for the title of professor must have a doctorate.
