Russian Ministry of Defense: conscripts will not be sent to combat zone

Russian citizens called for military service will not be sent to the combat zone. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu, during a conference call with the leadership of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. According to Sergei Shoigu, the recruitment campaign is taking place as planned and is within the deadlines established by Russian legislation. He also stressed that the General Staff is not planning additional mobilization.

“More than two thousand seven hundred draft commissions have been formed in all regions. Following the presidential decree, 130 thousand people are subject to conscription. Once again, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that all conscripts, including those from new regions, will not be sent to the combat zone. The General Staff has no plans for additional mobilization. The armed forces have the necessary military personnel to conduct a special military operation. This is largely facilitated by the strong patriotic position of our citizens, who are actively joining the ranks of defenders of the Fatherland. Since the beginning of the year, more than three hundred thirty-five thousand people have entered military service under contract and into volunteer formations. In September alone, more than 50 thousand citizens signed a contract. All subjects of the country, large enterprises, state corporations, and the Russian Cossacks significantly contribute to the common cause. Some regions have formed and continue to recruit registered units,” said Sergei Shoigu.

Earlier, the Bashinform News Agency reported regarding the military commissar of Bashkiria, Colonel Mikhail Blazhevich, that more than 4 thousand conscripts would leave the republic for their places of service. He noted that the recruits will not be sent to the zone of a special military operation.

The recruitment campaign started in Russia on October 1. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the conscription of Russian citizens for military service in October–December 2023 and on the dismissal from service of those who are conscripted.

The document published on the official Internet portal of legal information shows that the conscription of 130 thousand Russians aged 18 to 27 years who are not in the reserves should be carried out from October 1 to December 31.
