In Russia, free access to socially significant online resources, such as State Services or the social media VKontakte, has been extended. As follows from the decree signed by the Chairman of the Government of the country, Mikhail Mishustin, the duration has been increased from 24 hours to 7 days.
It is noted that access is provided regardless of the subscriber’s account status and does not require re-connection. The updated rules will come into effect on September 1, next year, as part of the “Affordable Internet” program.
“The obligation of telecom operators to provide citizens with free access to socially significant online resources is enshrined in the Law “On Communications”. Based on proposals from the Ministry of Digital Development, the list of sites Russians can use for free is determined by a special government commission chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. Information about information resources included in the list is posted on the official website of Roskomnadzor,” the Russian government explained.
Earlier, the country completed voting among villages for connecting to high-speed Internet, Bashinform News Agency reported.
