State Duma proposed paying teachers at least 2.5 minimum wages
A group of State Duma deputies submitted a bill to parliament for consideration, which proposes to establish for teachers of municipal schools working full-time a salary of at least 2.5 times the minimum wage (in 2023, the minimum wage in the Russian Federation is 16,242 rubles per month).
As follows from the explanatory note, the average salary of teachers in Russia, according to the Federal Service of State Statistics, is 45,787 rubles in 2023, while its level differs in different regions. For example, it is 25-30 thousand rubles in several small cities. According to parliamentarians, increasing salaries will help improve the prestige of the teaching profession in society. The Russian government did not support the parliamentary initiative. In conclusion, it is noted that its adoption will require additional budget costs, the sources of which have not been determined.
