Largest gem-quality diamond in last 10 years was mined in Russia
The largest gem-quality diamond in Russia over the past 10 years was mined at the Mayat diamond mine in the Anabar region of Yakutia, the Alrosa Company reported. Its weight was 390.7 carats.
The find was discovered during night washing of the diamond-bearing sands of the Mayat mine. Along with the record-breaking diamond, the company’s employees also mined a large colorless diamond weighing 37.7 carats with a classical octahedron shape. Currently, the crystals are sent for expert evaluation.
According to Bashinform News Agency, the largest gem-quality diamond weighing 401 carats was previously found in 2013.
