Archaeologists from Bashkiria are exploring ancient settlements in Kyrgyzstan

Tatyana Aksyutina

Bashkir archaeologists and colleagues are exploring the ancient site of Sadyr-Kurgan in the Talas Valley of Kyrgyzstan. The International Tien Shan Expedition, organized by the State Hermitage Museum and the Institute of History and Cultural Heritage of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, works at the foot of Ala-Too, on the border with Kazakhstan. This area is known as the small homeland of the statesman and religious figure Hussein Bek, in whose honor a mausoleum was erected in the Chishminsky district of Bashkiria.

Specialists from the Research and Production Center for the Protection and Use of Immovable Cultural Heritage of the Republic and the Digital Archeology Laboratory joined the Kyrgyz-Russian archaeological project based on an agreement on scientific cooperation with the Hermitage. This is one of the agreements signed by the Head of the Republic, Radiy Khabirov, and the Director of the Hermitage, Mikhail Piotrovsky, as part of the Days of Bashkortostan in St. Petersburg.

Director of the Institute of History of Material Culture Andrei Polyakov noted the work of Bashkir archaeologists in digitizing heritage and said that in the future, he would like to see them as part of a group involved in the restoration and preservation of the ancient city in Syria - Palmyra.

As Bashinform News Agency was informed, during the Tien Shan expedition, Bashkir archaeologists are responsible for its digital part. The expedition aims to study the formation and development of ancient and medieval urban culture. International experience and knowledge gained during the study of the ancient settlement will be used to check similar archaeological sites in our republic.

As the head of the group, Ramil Nasretdinov, reports from the site, their tasks include remote identification, recording, and digitizing archaeological heritage objects. Also, Bashkir specialists pass on their knowledge so that remote research methods, effectively used in Bashkiria, can serve the Kyrgyz heritage.
