Russian citizens will be protected from international body’s decisions that contradict Russian Federation legislation

The State Duma adopted in the second and third reading amendments on protecting citizens of the Russian Federation from international bodies whose decisions are contrary to national legislation. In particular, a penalty of up to 5 years in prison has been introduced for assisting in the execution of judgments of interstate organizations on the criminal prosecution of our service members and volunteers, and officials of public authorities. This was reported on the website of the State Duma.

According to amendments to the federal law "On Security", the President of Russia is empowered to take measures to protect the Russian Federation and its citizens "if foreign and (or) international (interstate) bodies (organizations) take decisions or carry out actions that are contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation and (or) the fundamentals of the public law and order of the Russian Federation”.

The Criminal Code will be supplemented with a new article, 284.3. Thus, for assisting in the execution of decisions of international organizations, of which Russia is not a member, or foreign state bodies on the criminal prosecution of officials of public authorities of the Russian Federation in connection with the performance of official activities, as well as other persons in connection with military service or being in volunteer formations that contribute to the fulfillment of the tasks assigned to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will face a fine in the amount of 300 thousand to 1 million rubles or imprisonment for up to five years.
