Specialists of the Altyn Solok organization from Bashkiria will help colleagues from the Belovezhskaya Pushcha Reserve (Belarus) to recreate the Belarusian population of the dark forest bee lost after the Great Patriotic War. The press service of the government of Bashkiria reported this.
Specialists from Bashkiria already have experience working with dark forest bee populations. "Altyn Solok" was initially created to reproduce the population of the dark forest bee. Today, the institution is a breeding reproducer for breeding bees of the Central Russian breed and a laboratory for molecular genetic expertise. The laboratory has already collected Russia’s largest honey bee DNA bank, which is constantly replenished and updated. This valuable information allows you to create reference identifiers for each breed of bees.
“We agreed on cooperation with Belarusian scientists back in December 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture of Bashkiria and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus signed a corresponding agreement as part of the official visit of the delegation of Bashkortostan to Belarus. The cooperation concerns various areas,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, Minister of Agriculture Ilshat Fazrakhmanov, said.
In addition, within the international specialized wholesale exhibition fair "ProdExpo-2022", held in Minsk from November 15 to 18, 2022, Altyn Solok signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
It should be noted that in 2023, a beekeeping support program was developed in Bashkiria, which is also partly aimed at preserving and spreading the local population of the Central Russian bee. For its implementation in 2023, 20 million rubles were allocated from the republic’s budget. The funds will be used to purchase bee colonies, bee packages, and queen bees of the Bashkir breed, capable of living in logs with minimal human intervention, and purchase records and equipment. Laboratory studies of wild-caught honey and the genetic validity of the breed of bees will also be subsidized.
Earlier, Bashinform News Agency spoke about cooperation between Bashkiria and Belarus in the economy and the humanitarian sphere. As a reminder, on June 26-28, Ufa will host the 10th Forum of the Regions of Russia and Belarus.
