Draft age raising law was submitted to State Duma
The lower threshold of military age for military service for Russian citizens will be gradually raised from 18 to 21 years. Corresponding amendments to the federal law "On military duty and military service" were introduced by the deputies of the State Duma.
At the same time, increasing the upper limit of conscription - from 27 to 30 years is also proposed. The transition phase will last from 2024 to 2026.
“From January 1 to December 31, 2024, citizens aged 19-30 are subject to conscription. From January 1 to December 31, 2025 - 20-30 years old, and from January 1, 2026 - from 21-30 years old.” the document says.
As the authors of the initiative noted, it guarantees that citizens will receive a secondary general/professional or higher education. People who turn 18 after January 1, 2024, can also pay off military duty by writing an application to the draft board.
Bashinform News Agency reported that 4,000 young people were recruited in Bashkiria for the autumn draft campaign-2022.
