Russian rescuers complete work in Turkey and Syria

Tatyana Aksyutina

Groups of the Russian Emergencies Ministry are completing work in earthquake-hit Turkey and Syria. It was decided to withdraw rescuers from the disaster zone. This was announced on February 14 by the Head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov.

“The search and rescue operation is coming to an end. Heavy machinery has been brought in to remove the rubble. In this regard, the President decided to return the grouping of the Russian Emergencies Ministry,” he said during a teleconference with EMERCOM working groups in Turkey and Syria.

As Bashinform News Agency wrote earlier, Bashkiria became one of the first Russian regions to send volunteer rescuers to help in the aftermath of the disaster. They managed to save five people from the rubble. First, a group of rescuers found alive a family of three people who had been in forced captivity for six days. A little later, a rescue dog named Thorin helped find two more survivors.

In addition, Bashkiria sent 25 tons of humanitarian aid to Turkey: tents, blankets, baby clothes and food, power banks for electronic devices, and much more. Residents, enterprises, and businesses of our republic provided gratuitous assistance.

Recall the most powerful earthquake in almost 100 years in Turkey occurred on February 6. Its magnitude was 7.7. According to the latest data, more than 37 thousand people became victims of the disaster.
