1.5 thousand Russian students will receive 1 million rubles to implement their developments in 2023. This is 500 more people than last year, said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government.
Starting today, the Innovation Promotion Fund has begun accepting applications for participation in the Student Startup competition. It is held for students, and graduate students whose projects are developed based on their own scientific and technical, scientific and technological research and have the potential for commercialization. Acceptance of applications for the competition will end on April 3, 2023, the press service of the Russian government reported.
“Ensuring the country's technological sovereignty and economic security are the priorities of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The "Student Startup" competition has become one of the tools for solving them. This year, 1.5 thousand students will receive funding of 1 million rubles for implementing their developments, which is 500 more than in 2022. We plan to strengthen support for young people: in 2024, 2,000 students will be able to receive grants, and by the end of 2030 - up to 30,000,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The selection of program participants is carried out in seven thematic areas. Among them are digital technologies, medicine, chemical and new materials, devices and intelligent manufacturing technologies, biotechnology, resource-saving energy, and creative industries.
As the Minister of Education and Science of Russia Valery Falkov emphasized, domestic universities' approach to preparing students has changed dramatically. The modern economy needs new-style specialists who can develop a business idea and translate it into a natural product, service, or technology.
“We try to provide maximum opportunities for students. The competition “Student Startup” has proven itself well. Thanks to him, 1,000 children received support in 2022. This year, it was decided to increase the number of grant recipients,” added Valery Falkov.
“The Innovation Promotion Foundation pays great attention to supporting youth entrepreneurship – three of the foundation’s eight programs are aimed at this: Umnik, Start, and Student Startup. The last program is only a year old. Still, we have already successfully selected a thousand of the best projects, more than 600 of which have now received the status of a legal entity and are preparing to launch the production of innovative import-substituting products,” commented Sergei Polyakov, Director General of the Innovation Promotion Fund.
The competition is held within the federal project "Platform of University Technological Entrepreneurship".
As reported on the nationalprojects.rf website, the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform project is being implemented as part of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia in 2022-2031.
