Bashkir branch of Russian Geographical Society was awarded Big Silver Medal

The regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society in Bashkortostan was awarded the Big Silver Medal of the Russian Geographical Society.

This award was established in 2014 and is awarded for a significant contribution to the successful implementation of projects of the Russian Geographical Society, for activities in organizing expeditions, research and travel, and achievements in the geographical sciences field.

This year, the Russian Geographical Society celebrated 177 years since its foundation. This is the oldest currently operating public organization in Russia. The Bashkortostan branch was formed in 1954. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society is the Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov.

The Republic is the leader in the number of local branches; in 2021, the Russian Geographical Society of Bashkiria rose from tenth to second place in the ranking of the best branches in the country.

“Our colleagues work intensively. They are true patriots of the nature, history, and culture of Bashkiria, for which we are very grateful,” said Radiy Khabirov.

The Askyn Ice Cave: Accessible Route project won the Presidential Grants Fund competition and received a subsidy of almost 5 million rubles. With these funds, work was carried out to equip a safe tourist route to the Askyn ice cave for the disabled and people with disabilities.

Thanks to comprehensive research, a scientific rationale for maintaining the ecological balance of the Kinderlinskaya Cave has appeared, cartographic material has been prepared and reliable information for excursions.

The Mustai Peak project was implemented on the 100th anniversary of the national poet of Bashkortostan Mustai Karim in 2019. One of the peaks in the Chegem Gorge was named after our great countryman. The Bashkir branch made and installed a commemorative plaque. This year, six kilometers of the first category of difficulty route were marked in the spur of the main Caucasian ridge. The new mountain-pedestrian tourist route in the Chegem Gorge is called the "Trail of Poets" and was created under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society.

The regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society began a comprehensive scientific study of the Bashkir bee population on the territory of the Toratau Geopark in 2022. The research is aimed at inventorying and certification of the Bashkir bee by studying the morphometric and genetic characteristics of bees and assessing honey quality.

Much work is being done in Bashkortostan to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Russian history and, in particular, to perpetuate the memory of the natives of Bashkortostan, who have outstanding achievements and special services to the Fatherland. Most recently, on November 25, the department unveiled a memorial plaque to Alexander Noskov, a full member of the Russian Geographical Society. He is the first biogeographer who lived and worked in the republic and the author of many scientific works on botany and geography.
