Turkey will begin to take a two percent tax for accommodation in hotels, motels, boarding houses, guest houses, and other facilities that accommodate vacationers from January 1, 2023. This was announced today, December 14, by the government bulletin "Resmi Gazete".
Students who live in hostels, boarding houses, campsites, diplomatic missions accredited by Ankara, and representatives of international organizations with diplomatic status are exempt from the fee.
It is worth noting that the Turkish authorities decided to introduce the corresponding tax back in 2019. But then the project was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
