Every year about 30 thousand cases of pneumonia are registered in Bashkiria. 232 cases of community-acquired pneumonia, or 5.8 cases per 100,000 population, were recorded in the republic last week, reported by the Bashkiria’s Rospotrebnadzor department.
The risk of developing pneumonia is much higher in people who have not been vaccinated against influenza and other infections. The most severe infection occurs in children under 2 years of age, the elderly, and people with concomitant diseases - chronic broncho-obstructive, hemato-oncological, cardiovascular diseases, asthma, diabetes mellitus, and HIV infection. It is in these groups that pneumococcal infections are one of the leading causes of death.
Immunization is the only way to significantly affect the incidence of pneumococcal infection and reduce mortality. The vaccine does not contain live bacteria, mercury-containing preservatives, formaldehyde, antibiotics, yeast, or chicken protein and has a well-established safety profile, allowing it to be used from the first months of life. 2 types of vaccines are widely used in Russia - Prevenar-13, and Pneumo-23. Both vaccines meet international and domestic quality standards.
An important factor in the prevention of pneumonia is the observance of general sanitary and preventive measures (compliance with personal hand hygiene, ventilation of rooms, disinfection of surfaces, etc.), as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, rational nutrition, observing the regime of work and rest.
