Republican Children's Clinical Hospital (RCCH) traumatologists-orthopedists team performed a unique operation on a "crystal" child. "Crystal" refers to children whose bones often break due to a genetic disorder. Many of them cannot walk. Due to the lack of collagen, the bone tissue is formed incorrectly and with the slightest careless movement, they can get fractures.
Recently, traumatologists-orthopedists of the RCCH successfully performed a surgical intervention on such a child. The operation is extremely complex and requires jewelry work. During surgery, the axis of the bone is corrected, and a sliding metal rod is installed inside the bone. Its difference from other rods is that it does not require replacement as the child grows and is a prevention of the occurrence of new fractures.
The main goal of the operation is to create conditions for the independent movement of the child and the prevention of complex displacements in fractures, the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital reported. This is the next step for the medical facility to introduce modern high technologies in the treatment of children with severe orthopedic pathology.
