Ufa hit Top 10 Russian cities in population base

Ufa became the tenth city in Russia in the population base. These are the data of the All-Russian population census, held last autumn.

“The capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan is the tenth largest city in Russia. The permanent population of Ufa amounted to 1144.8 thousand people, Bashstat reports. “In addition, 24 rural settlements are subordinated to the administration of Ufa, the total number of inhabitants of which amounted to almost 23,000 people.”

Ufa entered the list of Russian million-plus cities in 1980.

According to the results of the population census as of October 1, 2021, there are 16 cities in Russia with a population of more than a million people. Perm, Voronezh, Krasnodar, and Krasnoyarsk have been added to the list of million-plus cities.

Today, more than 35.5 million people live in million-plus cities (32.3 percent of Russia's urban population). Population growth is observed in all major cities, except for Nizhny Novgorod.

The population growth in Ufa was 10 percent according to Rosstat.

5 of the 16 million-plus cities are located in the Volga Federal District - Ufa, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, and Perm, and another five in the more eastern federal districts - Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Chelyabinsk.
