By a decree of the government of Bashkiria, the social card of a resident is combined with the Alga transport card. The new card is given the name Card of a resident Alga, Bashkortostan. According to the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan, it will work on the basis of the Russian payment system "Mir".
“The transformation involves expanding the circle of banks participating in the project and expanding the functionality of the card. If now it is used mainly to pay for public transport and receive discounts in stores, then with the development of the project, other applications that are already technically implemented today will become in demand. For example, the card can be used as an identifier when receiving public services, social support measures, medical assistance, passes to educational institutions, and even an electronic signature,” commented Lilia Yakupova, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
According to the regulator, in Bashkiria, the issuance of cards of the Russian payment system Mir increased by 25% over the year: from 2.5 million as of July 1, 2021, to 3.2 million as of July 1, 2022.
The share of MIR cardholders in the region is almost 80%. Every third banking transaction is made with these cards.
The Social Card of Bashkortostan project based on the Mir payment system has been implemented since 2017. Now there are more than 320 thousand such cards in the republic.
