Bashkir language hit Top 200 world languages

The Bashkir language is included in the NLLB-200 multilingual machine translation model. The new artificial intelligence makes direct translations between pairs of 200 languages. Experts note that the translation results are more accurate than currently known methods using intermediate languages, usually English. This was reported to Bashinform by the developer of digital applications for the Bashkir language Aigiz Kunafin.

“Volunteers, those who create, fill in the Bashkir Wikipedia, know and use the built-in tool for translating articles, which also includes the possibility of machine translation from Yandex Translator. Recently, another machine translation (model NLLB-200) with higher translation quality has been included in the Wikipedia Article Translation Tool. The list of languages also includes the Bashkir language. The fact is that artificial intelligence was developed on the text base of Wikipedia articles, including the Bashkir one. Thus, the Bashkir Wikipedia helped artificial intelligence, and now it is starting to help it,” Aigiz Kunafin says.

The administrator of the Bashkir Wikipedia Rustam Nuryev clarified the position of the Bashkir language in the global Wikipedia ranking.

“In terms of the total number, our section is in 91st place with 60,195 articles containing about 25 million words. In terms of coverage and completeness of 10,000 recommended articles, it is in 64th place, which is 30%. In terms of 1,000 mandatory articles, it is in 17th place (70%). ” Rustam Nuryev commented.
