The first case of monkeypox was recorded in St. Petersburg. The disease was detected in a young man who returned from a trip to Europe, the press service of Rospotrebnadzor reports.
The department noted that the patient went to a medical facility with a characteristic rash.
“The patient is isolated and is in a medical organization with an infectious profile. The disease proceeds in a mild form. There is no threat to the patient's life. All contact persons were identified in a timely manner and are under medical supervision. If the diagnosis is confirmed, they will be provided with all the necessary medical care. Due to the timely epidemiological investigation, the possibility of further spread of the infection was stopped. The situation is under strict control of Rospotrebnadzor”, it is said in the message.
It is known that the patient with monkeypox was identified due to the availability of test systems at the Vector Center. The health department clarified that the country has a sufficient number of reagent kits for the detection of monkeypox virus, as well as other orthopoxviruses.
