It is real spring in the South Ural Botanical Garden. Plants have begun to bloom in the greenhouse. In particular, feijoa blooms abundantly.
In general, the plants in the botanical garden feel the approach of summer before anyone else. Already in January, greenhouse workers notice positive changes.
Even though it is now March outside that looks like January, the botanical garden is enjoying a full-fledged spring.
Clivia blooms with bright red flowers. Dichroa, anthuriums, abutilon maple, jasmine are fragrant.
Heat-loving greenhouse plants survive the winter calmly.
According to garden specialists, despite the fact that the room is not as hot as in their homeland, the plants adapt and get used to a stable temperature. In winter, an average of 12-16 degrees Celsius.
According to Maria Lebedeva, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Senior Researcher, Head of the Botanical Garden, the flow of visitors to the greenhouse grows in the winter months, many people want to leave the gray city and enter the fragrant tropical forest.
In the botanical garden, work is constantly underway to update and replenish the collection. Bashkir scientists exchange seeds with botanical gardens in Europe and Russia. However, this way of plant reproduction is quite long: bushes and trees will grow from seed only after 20 years. Therefore, most often propagated by cuttings and seedlings in rooted form.
Another way is to work with private collectors. In particular, the collection of cacti in the Ufa Botanical Garden is being expanded with the help of the Gulshat Cactus Growers Club.
The treasure of the collection of the Ufa Botanical Garden is the "drooping cycas". It is over 120 years old, and it grows in Ufa since the founding of the botanical garden - it was brought from Sukhumi.
