Coca-Cola and Pepsi leave Russia, McDonald's temporarily closes 850 restaurants

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo announced the suspension of their activities in the Russian Federation. The corporation was informed of its decision on the same day.

The PepsiCo website published a letter from CEO Ramon Laguarta, which he addressed to the employees of his company. In it, he recalled that the company had worked in Russia for more than 60 years, and entered the market at the height of the Cold War, providing assistance to the USSR and the USA in establishing relations. However, for now, Pepsi-Cola, 7Up, Mirinda, and other global brands will not be sold in Russia. The only exceptions are essential goods such as dairy products, infant formula and baby food. In addition, the corporation said that it would not leave without support its 20,000 employees in Russia, as well as 40,000 agricultural workers who participate in the company's supply chain.

The temporary suspension of the activities of 850 fast food restaurants in Russia was also announced by McDonald's CEO Chris Kempchinski. According to him, for all 62,000 employees of McDonald's in Russia, wages will be preserved.
