70-year-old patient was implanted with biological heart valve at cardiology center in Ufa

The Republican Cardiology Center has begun using biological prostheses for the surgical treatment of aneurysms of the thoracic aorta, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Bashkiria reports.

A valve-containing conduit with a biological aortic valve prosthesis and an "easy change" system will be implanted in the cardiology center starting this year. Previously, patients were implanted with mechanical prostheses, and the patient had to take drugs for life that reduced the risk of thrombosis.

A biological prosthesis has characteristics as close as possible to a "healthy" aortic valve but is prone to rapid degeneration at a young age. Doctors say that in people over 65 years of age, the likelihood of deterioration is sharply reduced.

The other day, a similar operation was performed on a 70-year-old patient from Uchaly by a team of specialists led by the head of the vascular surgery department, Ramil Izhbuldin. The operation lasted 2.5 hours. The patient is now doing well and is preparing for discharge soon.
