

The number of new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection detected over the past week (January 10-16) in the world increased by 20%, Interfax reports citing the weekly report of the World Health Organization (WHO).
At the same time, it notes that the number of deaths from COVID-19 over the past week has not changed compared to the week before last.
According to the organization, there were 18 million new cases of COVID-19 in the world last week and 45 thousand deaths among those infected with the coronavirus. The only region where there is a decrease in the incidence of coronavirus is Africa.
As the regional emergency control center reports, Bashkiria shows the continuing daily increase in cases of COVID-19 - 253 cases per day on January 18. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, coronavirus has been detected in 125,813 people. Almost 117,000 of them have recovered, the Ministry of Health RB reported. The number of people currently fighting the infection has again exceeded 5 thousand people. Of these, 139 patients are treated in hospitals, 45 are in serious condition. Six people died per day, a total of 4590 since the pandemic's beginning. 4983 people are receiving treatment at home with a mild form of the disease.
A new, more contagious strain of COVID "omicron" has already been confirmed in 23 residents of Bashkiria.
