Republican Oncology Center received equipment for complicated radiation therapy procedures

The Republican Oncology Center received new equipment that allows conducting complex radiotherapy procedures. Two high-energy accelerators, Elekta Versa and Elekta Infinity were purchased as part of the National Healthcare Project.

Experts say that the new equipment makes it possible to carry out the most complex radiotherapy procedures of hypofractionation, SBRT, SRS, ensuring high accuracy and quality without changing the exposure time.

“We can deliver an extremely high dose of radiation to a tiny amount of tissue. This will lead not to prolongation of life but a cure. We can irradiate tumors with a 1-5 centimeters volume while avoiding serious damage to surrounding tissues. This is called stereotactic radiation therapy or radiosurgery,” Adel Izmailov, Chief Physician of the Republican Oncology Center, said.

In total, in 2019-2021, about 4.3 billion rubles were allocated to purchase equipment for radiation therapy for the Oncology Center, of which 2.9 billion rubles were from the federal budget, the Ministry of Health of the region reported.
