2-year-old patient underwent rare heart surgery in Ufa

In Ufa, specialists from the Republican Cardiology Center performed a rare operation on a two-year-old girl. She was diagnosed with heart pathology from birth - an enlarged right atrium. Until two years, she was under the supervision of doctors.

"This is a very rare anomaly. It was first described in the scientific literature in 1955. Since then, no more than 60 cases of congenital right atrial aneurysm have been reported worldwide. Of these, 37 were operated on. One of them was recently made in the Republican Cardiology Center by a team of pediatric cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthesiologists," the chief physician of the cardiology center Irina Nikolaeva said.

The doctors operated on the little patient for about four hours. Surgical intervention was performed on an open heart under artificial circulation. Doctors performed a reduction plasty of the right atrium, reducing it to its normal size.

"Nothing threatens the child's life now. She returned home, and like all healthy children, she can run, jump, play with her peers," the Ministry of Health RB press service noted.
