Bashkir surgeons performed a unique operation to change the timbre of the voice. Under the guidance of leading Moscow specialists, the doctors of the BSMU clinic performed glottoplasty using the contact laser method. The operation was carried out in a master class format. More than 700 participants of the Eurasian Congress on Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery, which is taking place in Ufa these days, followed it online.

A 30-year-old woman became the first to whom doctors performed laser glottoplasty. Long-term use of hormonal drugs changed her voice to such an extent that she needed the help of specialists. The surgeons corrected the woman's vocal folds so that later she could speak in a higher voice, the assistant of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Bashkir State Medical University, the oncologist Raushan Bakiev told the journalists of the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company "Bashkortostan".

Minimally invasive manipulation is carried out using a laser and a supporting laryngoscope, making it possible to reduce postoperative trauma, speed up the healing process, and most importantly, significantly - almost ten times - to reduce the recovery time. After surgery, the patient needs about two weeks of vocal rest.

The operation allows restoring the timbre of the patient's voice for medical reasons or social necessity. It is performed by the contact laser method and lasts 1.5 hours.

Glottoplasty is a relatively rare manipulation. To date, only 15 such operations have been carried out in Russia. This is the first such experience for Bashkiria.
