61 HIV-positive women were identified among pregnant women in Bashkiria in 2021

For eight months of 2021 in the Republic of Bashkortostan, out of 60,022 pregnant women tested for HIV infection, 61 women had positive results. In total, 250 HIV-positive pregnant women were registered during the reporting period, which is 7.3% more than the same period in 2020 (233 pregnant women).
The main route of HIV transmission in pregnant women in 2021, as in previous years, is sexual and accounts for 92% of cases. In 8% of cases, HIV infection occurred through the parenteral route.
The share of women with HIV infection who want to take their pregnancy to term remains pretty high every year - 90%.
In Bashkiria, since 1987, 5,263 children have been born from HIV-infected mothers, 3,922 of them are healthy and taken off the register, 685 children are under observation until the diagnosis is made. There are 257 children with an established diagnosis of HIV infection, including 226 children aged 0 to 14 years, 31 children from 15 to 17 years old. The rate of vertical transmission of HIV infection from mother to child in 2021 was 2.6%, 225 children were born, of which six were infected with HIV.
For all the years of the HIV infection spread in the Republic of Bashkortostan, 37 353 HIV-infected people were cumulatively registered, of whom 12 460 people died from all causes (33.4%). These figures were reported at a meeting of the Committee for the Prevention of HIV Infection of the Ministry of Health RB, the press service of the department reports.
The prevalence of HIV infection among the republic population was 528.3 per 100 thousand people of the republic, as of August 31, 2021(RF - 745.5; Volga Federal District - 686.5). For eight months of this year, 719,519 citizens of Bashkortostan were tested for HIV infection markers, which is 17.8% of the population of the republic, exceeding the figure for the same period last year by 178,178 people (for eight months of 2020, 541,341 people were tested, or 13, 4% of the population).
According to the results of HIV testing for eight months of this year, 1,463 positive results for HIV were obtained in the immunoblotting reaction, which is 96 cases more than in the same period last year (8 months of 2020 - 1,367).
The average incidence of HIV infection in the republic was 36.2 per 100 thousand population for eight months of 2021, 7.3% higher than in the same period last year (8 months of 2020 - 33.7).
The incidence of HIV infection is higher among men and amounts to 59.3% of the number newly diagnosed this year.
The primary incidence of HIV infection falls on the age group 31-40 years old and accounts for 38.9% of newly diagnosed patients.
