On September 16, the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan hosted a briefing on the International Online Symposium of Beekeepers, which will be held in Ufa from September 20 to September 21, 2021.
The speakers of the event were Deputy Prime Minister of the Government RB - Minister of Agriculture Ilshat Fazrakhmanov, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Beekeeping Associations Riccardo Giannoni-Sebastianini (online), Director of the ANO Interregional Center for the Protection and Promotion of Beekeeping Products RB "Altyn Solok" Marat Khasanov and Head of Insect Adaptability Biochemistry Laboratory, UFIC RAS Aleksey Nikolenko.
"Bashkortostan produces on average 6 thousand tons of marketable honey per year. This is the average capacity of our market. However, according to experts' forecasts, commercial honey production will already be 7 thousand tons this year. This means that one thousand tons will have to be sold outside the region and, most likely, the country. Otherwise, prices may collapse, as it has happened more than once. Moreover, export of honey is a completely different competence that can be developed at such events," the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan - Minister of Agriculture said.
Riccardo Giannoni-Sebastianini noted that the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic had been felt both in society and in beekeeping.
He noted that among the main problems for beekeepers was global warming and the floods caused by it in several countries, land erosion, chemicalization in related agricultural sectors. The pandemic has also exacerbated the situation with the falsification of honey, he stressed. An online symposium and congress is a real opportunity to voice a problem, speak out about it, and find ways to solve it.
Marat Khasanov, in turn, spoke about the unique properties of Bashkir honey. The Bashkir linden honey obtained in the Ural forests by the Central Russian bee has a 95% content of linden honey.
Recall that the International Online Symposium of Beekeepers "Global Trends in Beekeeping Development" is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Apimondia Congress in Moscow and will be held with the support of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the Apimondia Secretariat, and the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The Symposium will be attended by speakers from Bashkortostan, Russia, and foreign participants.
They are leading scientists in genetics, bee health, beekeeping economics, and practicing beekeepers.
An online exhibition will also be held as part of the online Symposium. During the Symposium, presentation videos on the achievements of the regions of the Russian Federation in the field of beekeeping will be demonstrated.
The International Online Symposium will be a preparatory event for the main event, the 47th Apimondia Congress in 2022, which will be held in Ufa early in September 2022.
